Milton Hershey School on Schedule to Submit West End Development Plan
Milton Hershey School, as the steward of Milton Hershey School Trust Real Estate, is moving forward with its Hershey West End development proposal and will submit a formal plan to the Derry Township Board of Supervisors next month. Through these efforts, MHS will meet the timelines outlined earlier this year and advance the 245-acre project featuring residential, commercial, and green spaces.
“We are proud to be taking exciting steps toward what will be an extraordinary win for the Hershey community,” said MHS President Peter G. Gurt. “Under MHS management, the planning for the project is progressing well and I am confident the end result will be an area that’s beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully designed for all to enjoy.”
Located between Waltonville and Bullfrog Valley Roads, the West End project will provide for-purchase single-family and townhome units, elevated retail spaces, a premium select-service hotel called Hershey Inn & Suites—owned and operated by Hershey Entertainment & Resorts—as well as parks and walking trails. Hankin Group will serve as the West End property developer.
In May of 2025, MHS shared initial details of a re-imagined approach to the West End, which eliminated apartment rentals and reduced the total number of units by nearly 50% from the originally planned 731, significantly decreasing density. Pleased with these revisions, the Derry Township Board of Supervisors extended the deadline for conditional project approval, agreeing to review a comprehensive plan before the close of 2025.
“It has been incredibly important to us to listen to members of our community and partner with local leaders as we develop the West End,” said Gurt. “This project represents an opportunity to create something enduring, vibrant, and worthy of the Hershey name—something we can all take pride in for generations to come. That’s exactly what we will do.”
