Milton Hershey School Celebrates the Holidays with Joyful Traditions

At Milton Hershey School, the holiday season isn’t just about lights and decorations—it’s about creating moments that students will carry with them for a lifetime. Across campus, traditions old and new came together to make December a time of joy, generosity, and community.

Milton’s Christmas Workshop

One of the most cherished traditions, Milton’s Christmas Workshop, gave students the opportunity to select and wrap gifts for their loved ones. With the help of staff and community partner volunteers, students experienced the joy of giving—a lesson that reflects the values of generosity and gratitude that define our school community.

HERSHEY’S Holiday Chocolate House

Fourteen 11th grade students in the Construction/Carpentry Career and Technical Education program area designed and constructed the frame for the Holiday Chocolate House at Chocolate World, starting the project in September. Now in its sixth year, this collaboration gives our students the chance to apply classroom learning to a real-world project—one that showcases their craftsmanship and creativity for Hershey visitors and the community.

Noontime Concerts

Music filled the air during the Noontime Concert Series, where our talented Visual and Performing Arts students showcased their skills through holiday performances. These concerts provided a joyful break in the day, welcomed members of the community to MHS, and reminded us of music’s power to bring people together.

Milton Hershey School Alumni Association (MHSAA) Holiday Party

The MHSAA hosted its annual holiday party for Elementary Division students, welcoming alumni of the Harrisburg Chapter back to campus to celebrate the season with students. This event highlighted the lifelong bonds formed at MHS and the shared commitment to supporting current students.

Campus Safety Gingerbread House Competition

Creativity and teamwork were on display during the Campus Safety Gingerbread House Competition. Elementary Division students turned gingerbread into replicas of the Campus Safety building, battling it out against other student homes.

Hugs and Kisses from Catherine

Continuing a cherished tradition, the Hugs and Kisses from Catherine December event spread warmth and kindness across campus. Middle Division students created holiday ornaments for staff at Catherine Hershey School’s Early Learning Middletown location. The event honored Catherine Hershey’s legacy of care and compassion, reminding us of the values that guide our community.

Breakfast with Santa

Elementary Division students kicked off the season with a magical morning during the annual Breakfast with Santa. Smiles filled the room as students enjoyed a festive meal, shared holiday cheer, and met Santa himself—a moment that made the season extra special for our youngest learners.

Hershey Symphony Orchestra Holiday Show

Senior Division students Andrew Flores and Bryce McGlaughlin shared holiday cheer and their musical talents with the local community, performing with the Hershey Symphony Orchestra during its annual Holiday Spectacular. Flores, who plays the string bass, and McGlaughlin, a violist, earned their spots in the orchestra at the start of their senior year through a competitive audition process—an achievement that reflects their dedication and artistry.

Pete Lights Drive-Thru

For the second year, the Pete Lights drive-thru transformed our Legacy Campus into a winter wonderland. After months of planning, the MHS Facilities and Technical Services team and the President’s Office created a dazzling display featuring decorated student homes, performances by Visual and Performing Arts students and cheerleaders, and a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The holiday season at Milton Hershey School unfolds like a story—where traditions come alive, talents shine brightly, and moments of togetherness weave a sense of magic across campus. From the glow of Pete Lights to the sound of symphonic strings and the aroma of chocolate, every event reminded us of the joy that comes from giving, sharing, and living out Our Pledge. As the year comes to a close, these moments shine as a powerful reflection of what makes our community so special.
