Milton Hershey School Seniors Honored as February 2022 Rotary Students of the Month

Milton Hershey School seniors Symyra Byrd and Elijah Ward were recently selected as the February 2022 Rotary Students of the Month. They each received a certificate from the Rotary Club of Hershey and are eligible for a scholarship.

Milton Hershey School seniors Symyra Byrd and Elijah Ward were recently selected as the February 2022 Rotary Students of the Month.

Symyra Byrd is from Howard, Pennsylvania, and enrolled at Milton Hershey School as a fourth grader in 2013. She is a member of the Student Government Association, National Honor Society, Mock Trial Team, Hershey Community Youth Alliance, and Four-Ever Connect. She also participates as a mentee in the MHS M.O.L.D. mentorship program. As a high school student, Symyra has gained real-world experience through internship opportunities with Hershey Entertainment & Resorts and the MHS Office of Communications. After graduating, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in legal studies.

When asked to share her response to being chosen as Rotary Student of the Month, Symyra said, “I am honored to have had the opportunity to be nominated for this prestigious award.”

Elijah Ward enrolled at Milton Hershey School in 2016 as a sixth grader from Front Royal, Virginia. He is president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Student Government Association, National Technical Honor Society, and the baseball and cross-country teams. Academically, Elijah has earned distinguished honor roll and effort and conduct awards. In high school, he interned with MHS Campus Safety and worked in the Agricultural and Environmental Education program’s Animal Center. After graduating, he plans to study international political economy at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Elijah shared, “I am humbled by this recognition, and I hope to use this award to inspire others to help and serve those in their community.”
