Walktober Begins for Employees at Milton Hershey School

This October, Milton Hershey School is encouraging employees to participate in Walktober and be active with a 31-day online fitness program that monitors steps and physical activity.

Starting on Oct. 1, staff can track their physical activity on an interactive website and receive daily tips and recipes to stay motivated throughout the program.

“As we were researching wellness ideas for school employees, we found Walktober,” Shelley Hart, MHS Human Resources Coordinator, said. “Hundreds of organizations around the world participate in Walktober every year.”

This year, many gyms have closed their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic or have restrictions for activities, MHS created this fitness program to encourage staff to get outdoors and enjoy the nice weather. More than 700 employees are participating in the program and have created teams with internal goals.

“Walktober is a great activity to do while staying socially distant,” Hart said. “The program is fun and informative. This is a fan-favorite here at MHS!”
