Keeping Hershey Healthy
Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is home to Penn State College of Medicine. In 1963, The M. S. Hershey Foundation gave a $50 million gift to The Pennsylvania State University to establish a medical school and teaching hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Penn State College of Medicine opened its doors to the first class of students in 1967. Milton S. Hershey Medical Center had its grand opening in 1970 and has since become one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers.
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center faculty and staff continue to create innovative medical advances through research and clinical trials. They also partner with Milton Hershey School in a unique way, by offering students hands-on experience in the medical field.

Providing Students with Real-Life Experiences
The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center supports MHS students by providing internships and unique classroom experiences for students in our Career and Technical Education (CTE) Health Science Program. Our CTE students attend clinical observation in 16 different departments at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center during their junior and senior years.
These students can earn nine industry-recognized certifications during their time at MHS. They also have the opportunity to earn and transfer up to 27 credits to a postsecondary institution.
How MHS Stays Healthy
The Milton Hershey School Health Center provides health screenings, vaccinations, and distribution of medicine to keep our students healthy at no cost to parents/sponsors. When students have health needs beyond rudimentary care, they are taken to the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. There, our students receive top-notch care from specialists, still with all costs covered.
