Developing the whole child, year round
Milton Hershey School’s Year-Round Experiences (YRE) program is based on the philosophy that learning and development happens all year long in both traditional and non-traditional classrooms. The YRE program provides opportunities for students to continue their learning throughout breaks and during the summer months by participating in experiential learning opportunities on and off campus.
Spartan Day Camp
During the optional summer weeks, there are opportunities for MHS students of all ages. Pre-k through eighth-grade students can participate in Spartan Day Camp.
Spartan Day Camp consists of four major themes:
- Literacy and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)
- Outdoor Adventure
- Sports/Fun Fitness
The students who participate in Spartan Day Camp have an opportunity to experience each theme at least once a week. Students in ninth through 12th grade can also participate in Spartan Day Camp. Their camp is focused on completing graduation requirements, lifelong learning experiences, and participation in recreational activities.
MHS offers several programs for students who have specific interests in particular areas. For example, students can participate in:
- Soccer camp
- Basketball camp
- Learn-to-draw classes
- Biking and hiking
- Individualized academic off-campus programming
Not all programs are offered every week.
All students are required to return to campus two weeks before the first day of classes in August to prepare for the new school year, begin fall practices, and participate in various YRE activities across campus.
