Central Pennsylvania Roots
Our region welcomes visitors from across the country and the world. Among the area’s many treasures is MHS, a school that has provided students with the tools to build successful futures from the start.
Central PA also is home to iconic dirt track Williams Grove Speedway and other raceways. They regularly draw in top competitors, such as World of Outlaws series drivers, to face off against the famed Pennsylvania Posse. During a recent trip to town, the Outlaws visited MHS students on campus for fun and hands-on learning.
Local Connection to the School
MHS is built on meaningful personal connections between staff, students, and community members. Growing up near Hershey, Brock Zearfoss, World of Outlaws driver, is excited to share the MHS mission with families across the country.
“I had the chance to spend some time at MHS and everything about their campus, including their staff and students, is incredible. To represent an entity like MHS, a name with so much history and impact right in our own backyard, is truly humbling,” said Zearfoss.
A Tradition of Hands-On Learning
Our founders, Milton and Catherine Hershey created the school to help children become their greatest selves. Mr. Hershey looked back on his own life and early trade experience as a foundation for the school’s vocational training, now known as the Career and Technical Education program. Whether choosing college or a trade, all MHS students have the opportunity to accrue up to $95,000 in scholarships to support what comes next.
Real Words about Real Life Experiences
Several MHS students have worked with World of Outlaws drivers in real races. Read more about their experiences and how this partnership comes to life with hands-on learning.
Rayshawn Shuler, MHS Student
“Not only was this my first time going to a live racing event, but also, I got to be an honorary member of a World of Outlaw’s racing team. This was an amazing introduction to the world of racing. I loved working with the team getting to know a local driver from Central Pennsylvania, Brock Zearfoss, and his crew. Getting to work in the pits with crews was an in depth learning experience. This was a place to network and see possible future careers in racing. Experiences like this aren’t offered to every student. This opportunity was made possible by Milton Hershey School.”
Dante Thomas, MHS Student
“I’ve always been fascinated with the racing since my family since I was young. But, being an active part of a real race, was an out of this world experience. being in the infield was a whole other environment. I am grateful for the drivers and their teams for sharing their experiences with me and letting me take part in the maintenance of the car. I know this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it wouldn’t have been possible without MHS.”
Tia Willis-Cooper, MHS Student
“My experience at the race was the best opportunity I have ever had. What I enjoyed the most was being able to actually work with the pit crew and get a little dirty. Also, I liked seeing the teamwork and how well they worked together. The crew made me feel like I was a part of the team. Racing is so fast paced and I think that is what makes me love it…the adrenaline when the cars go by and the loud roaring and rumbling.”
Brian Carter, World of Outlaws CEO
“It is amazing to see what happens here at Milton Hershey School. Our drivers have local connections to the school, and it is wonderful to interact and share our collective experience with the students.”
