Enrollment Journey
Your Journey to Enrollment
At MHS, students from pre-K through 12th grade live and learn in a safe, supportive environment—with all costs covered. We enroll students year round. Our team will be with you every step of the way, helping to move your student towards enrollment!
Our enrollment journey is split into the recruitment process and admissions process, detailed below.
Recruitment Process
Complete the Initial Eligibility Form
Begin by submitting the form online or by mail to help us understand your child’s initial eligibility.

Eligibility Review and Confirmation
Our team reviews and confirms your information and contacts you directly. This may include gathering documents or having additional conversations.
Campus Visit and Interview
If your child is eligible, we’ll guide you through the process. Some families are invited to visit campus and take part in an interview. This step helps you learn more about MHS and allows our team to assess your child’s potential eligibility to apply.
Invited to Apply
Families who complete all required steps and meet eligibility may be invited to apply.
Admissions Process
Once you sign and submit your application, your child becomes an applicant. All applicants receive a review. We look at the whole child—academics, character, and potential—to ensure the best fit for both the student and MHS. Not all students who apply are accepted to enroll at MHS.

What’s the Catch?
It might sound too good to be true, but it’s real. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey, all costs are truly covered for all enrolled students. The Hersheys gave their chocolate fortune to fund the school in perpetuity.
Every enrolled student receives:
- Free top-tier education and hands-on learning
- Safe housing and nutritious meals
- Clothing, school supplies, and extracurriculars
- Medical, dental, vision, and mental health care
- Continued guidance and support after graduation
What’s Expected in Return?
We seek students who are respectful, hardworking, and eager to learn and grow. Our enrollment journey is competitive, and being accepted can be a source of pride for our families. However, we recognize that it is a significant decision. As a residential school, our students spend a lot of time away from home. That makes enrollment bittersweet for some families.
That’s why we offer many ways for parents and family members to stay connected and involved—from regular visits to school events and family weekends. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
