CALEA Accreditation
Milton Hershey School exceeds national benchmarks in campus security policies and procedures. Because of our high standards, MHS is the only pre-K through 12th grade residential school with dual accreditation status from the Commission on Accreditation for the Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

What is CALEA?
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) was established in 1979 by major law enforcement executive associations to serve as a credentialing authority. CALEA awards accreditation to public safety agencies that meet its professional standards. The program seals symbolize excellence, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous development in public safety services. These seals, including the Campus Security Accreditation and Public Safety Communications Accreditation seals, serve as internationally recognized marks of accreditation and the gold standard in law enforcement.

Why Pursue Accreditation?
CALEA accreditation enhances agencies by promoting professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence. It fosters community advocacy, strengthens government support, and improves legal defense against civil lawsuits. Accredited agencies often experience reduced liability costs and greater accountability through structured policies, training, and clear directives. Campus Security accreditation builds confidence among students and parents, fostering a culture of transparency and ongoing organizational improvement.
Milton Hershey School Campus Safety also heads CSAC (Campus Security Accreditation Coalition). CSAC is a network that aims to enhance interagency communication and cooperation among participating accreditation agencies. It provides a unified platform for members to address mutual interests and concerns.
Even agencies not involved in accreditation programs can benefit from shared information, helping them improve or implement internal policies and procedures on contemporary campus safety and security topics.
We welcome both sworn and non-sworn campus security agencies from public and private colleges, universities, and K-12 schools. If your agency is interested in learning more about CSAC or the CALEA Campus Security and Communications accreditation program, please contact Lesley Rodono at (717) 520-2268 or use the form below.
