Milton Hershey School (MHS) is currently seeking a full-time Cook to join the team. MHS serves more than 2000 Pre-K through 12th grade students from lower income families.  If you would enjoy using your culinary skills to make a positive difference for youth, consider Milton Hershey School!   We have a unique opportunity in which you would cook healthy dishes, interact with a diverse population of adults and students, and assist with a variety of responsibilities to help keep the Food Service Department operating smoothly.  Each day is different! 

This service-orientated cook position provides the best menu for students and staff at the dining halls, residences, health center, catered events & special programs. It provides support to meet the school’s food service program needs such as preparing appealing and nutritious meals, fulfillment of menu orders, maintaining a food safe work environment (cleaning & sanitation) to enhance the well-being of the students and staff. 

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday flex shift (weekend shifts may be required as part of the flex schedule model). Any combination of the shift times listed below on a weekly basis. A full-time schedule shall consist of forty hours of scheduled work with a minimum of two (2) days off:

  • 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This is a 12-month (year-round) position, and it is part of the Bargaining Local Union 464 with a current hourly rate of $23.40 plus any shift differentials. In addition to competitive pay, full-time employees are eligible for an excellent benefits package. It includes paid time off, medical and dental insurance, and financial benefits.  


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience as a cook in a commercial kitchen environment & Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles
  • Culinary/catering/cooking experience required
  • Valid NSF Serv Safe Certification or ability to obtain upon hire within six months
  • Valid PA Driver’s License in good standing
  • HACCP training
  • Physically capable to lift and/or carry up to 50+ pounds on a frequent basis
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions; understand and carry out oral and written communication
  • Ability to interact and communicate with a diverse group of adults and children.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS Staff are considered to be role models for MHS Students.
  • Candidates should be willing to actively engage with MHS Students.
