Job Category: Alumni Relations

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world’s best pre-K through 12th grade private schools, where students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost-free home and a top-notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared almost 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.

MHS is seeking an Alumni Communications Manager (ACM) to ensure high-quality brand-consistent communications that engage MHS’s 8,000+ living alumni—with the goal of fostering alumni relationships and engagement, increasing volunteerism, and promoting advocacy.  The ACM’s key accountabilities include collaboratively developing communication plans aligned with MHS’s overall strategic plan and acting as the managing editor for all alumni communications including print publications and web content. The role entails extensive writing, editing, basic graphic design, brand protection, and overseeing website content management. Content focuses on promoting programming, events, alumni networks, and alumni education, benefits, and services.

The ACM will play a key role in bringing to life new promotional concepts and other initiatives to evolve programming to align with the growing alumni population and overall school growth. Additional responsibilities include oversight of Thy Traditions Dear alumni magazine, alumni awards programs, and alumni exhibit areas including the Dearden House Museum. This is an on-site, year-round position that compensates between $74K - $99K plus an excellent benefits package.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of prior experience in communications, preferably in alumni communications.
  • Skilled in writing persuasive and engaging content, as well as editing and overseeing communications including print and electronic.
  • Strong technology skills desired including Raiser’s Edge, HTML, website content management systems, graphic design software, and Microsoft applications.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly build and foster relationships, as well as engage and motivate others.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and problem solve in fast-paced settings.
  • Periodic travel and some evening and weekend work required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are considered role models for students.
  • Candidates should be eager to engage with students and alumni.
