Milton Hershey School Receives National Excellence in Action Award for Law, Public Safety and Security Career Pathway
The award recognizes the best Career and Technical Education programs across the nation.
Milton Hershey School recently was awarded the Excellence in Action Award from Advance CTE, an organization that advocates for high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs throughout the nation. MHS was recognized for its Law, Public Safety and Security career pathway, which is one of 11 career concentrations offered in the school’s renowned CTE program.
Milton Hershey School’s Law, Public Safety and Security pathway was selected based on its track record of providing clear pathways into college and careers, rigorous academic and hands-on coursework, strong partnerships with local businesses and law enforcement agencies, and impactful work-based learning experiences that promote career exploration.
“Career and technical education is the cornerstone of Milton Hershey School’s approach to education,” said MHS President Pete Gurt ’85. “This award truly reflects the dedication of our teachers, staff and community partners as we work to prepare students for success through hands-on instruction, career-specific training, and certification opportunities.”
MHS students in the Law, Public Safety and Security pathway develop a foundation in criminal justice and ethics and gain real-life experience in the school’s on-campus forensics lab and courtroom. MHS provides these career exploration opportunities as early as elementary school and supports students on their path to successful legal careers throughout the duration of their education. Advance CTE also recognized the program for its dual enrollment opportunities and industry-recognized credential offerings.
“I am so proud of these exemplary programs and all they offer learners across the country,” said Kimberly Green, Executive Director of Advance CTE. “Boasting impressive graduation and completion rates, credential attainment, and hands-on learning experiences, these programs demonstrate what high-quality CTE has to offer, and its ability to set students up for success across the spectrum of careers.”
Milton Hershey School was one of 11 schools nationwide to receive the prestigious Excellence in Action award. Representatives accepted the honor at an award luncheon and reception in Washington, D.C. on May 3, 2017.
