FOX43 Showcases the Important Role of Houseparents on Father’s Day

Featuring Mike King, MHS houseparent, and Mike Campbell, MHS Director of Year-Round Experiences

Fox43 reporter Madeline Cuddihy visited Milton Hershey School in advance of Father’s Day to learn how two MHS staff members have made a huge impact in the life of 2017 graduate Josi (Daugherty) Rhoads.

Raised by a single mother, Josi shared that Mike King, her high school housefather at MHS, and Mike Campbell, the Director of Year-Round Experiences at MHS and one of her favorite mentors, have been her father figures.

“Being able to have someone, especially at a younger age come into my life and…they showed me the values of what a father should be,” Josi said. “It was amazing.”

King even walked Josi down the aisle at her wedding. “That was quite an honor, I was really taken aback by that…when she asked me to walk her down the aisle, it was amazing,” King said.

Houseparents and staff members play an important role in the lives of all students at Milton Hershey School, serving as mentors and role models. Many develop bonds that last a lifetime.
