Milton Hershey School (MHS) is currently accepting applications for Substitute Houseparents (also known as Emergency Relief Houseparents) to work on an as needed basis – before start of school, after school through evenings and/or weekends.  Substitute Houseparents assist in homes where additional adult coverage is needed.  They collaborate with other staff on duty to ensure student safety and well-being, and that student homes are managed as per school policies and procedures.

Emergency Relief Houseparents (also known as Substitute Houseparents) are responsible for assisting Houseparents in their student homes.  Those experienced in Houseparenting may be eligible to cover student homes independently. Typical activities in the student homes include meal prep, chores, student activities, student transportation, and more.  Sunday coverage includes taking student to MHS chapel services.  The position pays $20.59 an hour. 

 

Qualifications:

•   Experience working with youth.  •    Strong interpersonal skills with youth and adults.  •    Strong organizational and administrative skills. •    High degree of flexibility and collaboration skills required.  •    Valid driver's license in good standing and an ability to be certified to drive student home vans.•    Able to handle emergency response situations and willing to attain CPR / First Aid certification.•    Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. •    High school diploma or GED required.  •    Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students. •    Candidates should be eager to actively engage with Pre-K through 12th grade students. •    Candidates should be age 27 or older.
