Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world's best private schools, where qualifying students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade live on campus and receive an exceptional educational experience—with all costs covered due to the generosity and forethought of our founders, Milton and Catherine Hershey. We are seeking a School Historian and Manager of The MHS Heritage Center. This position’s responsibilities are to support strategic goals by developing programing that conveys the School’s history and traditions, commitment to mission, values and the Founders’ Intent, while providing relevant research to the community. This position is an in-office role and entails some evenings and weekends to support the operational needs of the school. Starting pay is in the range of $52,897-$70,618; pay is determined based on experience.
Responsibilities include:
-Conducting research for MHS community and outside entities
-Serving as the school historian and Heritage Center Manager
-Developing educational programing and content
-Presentation of archival assets in a variety of ways
-Managing employees
-Coordination of cataloguing and retention of assets while updating School Chronology
-Participation in special projects that advance the overall mission and strategic plan
-Collaboration with Hershey entities and historical organizations
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required (Public History, American Studies, Museum Studies).
- Knowledge of Milton Hershey School, the lives of Milton and Catherine Hershey, the Deed of Trust, and the Hershey Community.
-Ability to conduct primary and secondary research and write clear and concise briefs.
-Excellent public speaking and presentation skills and the ability to conduct and facilitate oral histories.
-Working knowledge of museum conservation techniques, programing, and curriculum development.
-Ability to work independently.
-Computer proficient with Microsoft applications, scanning and Photoshop.
- Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, commitment, respect, and positivity, as all MHS staff are considered role models for MHS students.
- Candidates should be willing to actively engage with MHS students beyond the scope of their job responsibilities.
