Founded in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey, Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a cost-free, private home and school for over 2,000 pre-K through 12th grade students. MHS is currently seeking a Full-Time Dental Assistant to join the growing team. This professional will assist the dentist with all procedures, maximizing the delivery of related dental services including, direct chair-side assistance during preventive, operative, emergency, and limited orthodontic procedures. Some of the job responsibilities are:

  • To increase the efficiency of the dentist in the delivery of quality, comprehensive oral health care by providing direct, chair-side dental assistance with patient assessment, diagnostic, radiographic, preventive, operative and emergency procedures.
  • To track, schedule, and reschedule daily student dental appointments in multiple computer software systems and transmit appropriate dental appointment communications.
  • To perform/follow proper infection control and sterilization procedures and adhere to current COVID mitigation strategies.
  • To perform periodic clinic maintenance duties.
  • To track and manage dental laboratory cases.
  • To provide administrative assistance with office management duties – answer telephones, retrieve voicemail, typing, filing, faxing, and scanning.
  • To transport students between school buildings and to off-campus specialty dental appointments. 

Work Schedule: This is a year-round position with a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Qualifications:

  • Vocational or other technical school, certification, training, or apprenticeship beyond High School, required
  • Minimum one year experience in family, pediatric or orthodontic practice performing hands-on chair-side assistance
  • Proficiency in taking diagnostic x-rays (e.g., intraoral, extraoral); familiar with digital x-ray systems (e.g., digital x-ray sensors, Dexis software)
  • Pennsylvania X-ray certification with proof of current DEP radiology continuing education requirements (2 contact hours or 4 hours of CE every four years)
  • Current certification in infant, child, and Adult Healthcare Provider CPR 
  • Annual OSHA training
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel); experience with electronic dental computer software systems (e.g., Dentrix, Dolphin and Dexis) preferred 
  • Current valid PA driver’s license in good standing
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for MHS students
