Francis completed a graphic communications internship this summer

Francis’s Graphic Communications Internship

To gain hands-on experience in Milton Hershey School’s on-campus print shop, Francis Lomodong, a rising senior, chose to join the Graphic Communication Technologies career pathway through the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. He has gained skills and experiences that will assist him as he prepares to graduate in June 2019.

In addition to the hands-on experience he has received on campus, Francis had the opportunity to complete a summer internship with David A. Smith Printing in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He developed a more in-depth view of the industry while affirming that this is the profession he wants to pursue postgraduation.

“I like to design parts and I like being hands-on. That’s why I chose [the printing] side because it’s more hands-on and I like to interact with the process,” he said.

Thanks to the skills he gained using the school’s advanced design software and on-campus print shop, Francis knew how to work with many of the machines at his internship as well as some of the terminology. The internship gave him the opportunity to gain real-world knowledge and advance his abilities even further through the immersive experience.

“[MHS] prepared me to know the different types of machinery and how the processes work,” he added.

As he prepares for his future career, Francis now has the tools he needs to succeed in the world of graphic communications as well as new experiences he can carry with him into his first day of college or work.
