Substitute teaching at MHS

Substitute Teaching at MHS

Substitute teaching positions at Milton Hershey School are filled via Substitute Teacher Service. This includes assignments available during the school year, and absences during breaks and summers.

Established in 1994, Substitute Teacher Service places substitutes in various schools in Southeastern and Southcentral Pennsylvania, including Milton Hershey School. They have 16 office locations, including Harrisburg and Lancaster.   Forbes Media has named Substitute Teacher Service one of the best employers in the nation for new college graduates.

Milton Hershey School uses Substitute Teacher Service for placement of substitutes in day-to-day assignments as well as in long-term assignments. Once hired by Substitute Teacher Service, you would have access to substitute teaching opportunities available at MHS and could then select the assignments suitable for your interest and availability.

Compensation for substituting at Milton Hershey School is very competitive and follows our per diem pay schedule*:

  • Days 1 through 20 – $130 per day
  • Days 21 through 71 – $140 per day
  • Days 72 through 122 – $150 per day
  • Days 123 through year end – $175 per day

*Extended assignment substituting in which the substitute is responsible for lesson planning, grading, and other tasks may be eligible for the $175 per day pay rate at the beginning of the extended assignment.
