Eric Welsh

Eric Welsh ’84 has served much of his 28-year military career all over the globe, including eight years in Korea, four years in the Middle East, three tours in Europe, and service in Japan. Most recently, he served two tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. A decorated soldier, his military awards include three Bronze Stars (one with valor), a Purple Heart, Legion of Merit and a host of other honors. EMW Coke2

After retiring from the military, Eric moved to Atlanta, Ga., with his two teenage sons to work at the Coca-Cola headquarters as global operations director. Through the company’s active civic engagement, Eric has been able to help thousands of people worldwide receive clean drinking water and empower women in areas where they are often marginalized.

He also founded Almost Home Foundation, Inc. a non-profit in Georgia that helps homeless veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

“I owe many people at MHS for my opportunity at a better life! That school saved my life. It absolutely saved my life.”Mosul, Iraqimage

His continual spirit to give back is his way of repaying Mr. and Mrs. Hershey for all they gave him. Although there is much advice he would like to give to current students, Eric wants them to take advantage of every opportunity given to them, and to remember that they owe it to Mr. and Mrs. Hershey to give back and help others in every way they can.
