Fourth-Graders Celebrate Promotion to Middle School

On Friday, June 9, 113 fourth-grade students celebrated their promotion to fifth grade at Milton Hershey School. Parents, sponsors, houseparents, and staff attended the ceremony, which recognized the students’ accomplishments.

MHS Head of Elementary Division Annette Cole-Gill welcomed guests—thanking parents/sponsors for their commitment and engagement and MHS staff for their ongoing support and dedication as difference makers. She also noted founders Milton and Catherine Hershey’s role in students’ lives.

“Without their [the Hersheys’] tremendous vision and their generosity, none of this would be possible,” said Cole-Gill.

On Friday, June 9, 113 fourth-grade students celebrated their promotion to fifth grade at Milton Hershey School.

Each student’s name was announced and they received a promotion certificate to honor their transition to Middle Division. Following the presentation of promotion certificates, several students were recognized with awards.

Numerous students received “Inspiration Awards” for positive traits such as ensuring students feel welcome, serving as role models, sharing enthusiasm, and making responsible decisions. MHS also presented “Sacred Values Awards” to fourth-graders who consistently demonstrate one of the School’s four Sacred Values: integrity, commitment to mission, positive spirit, and mutual respect. Eve Boyer and Morris George were recognized for their commitment to mission; Renee Womack and Jesse Maccelus were recognized for their positive spirit; Victorlane Palmer and Leland Casey were recognized for their integrity; and Angelise Luttrell and Parris Blackston were recognized for displaying mutual respect.

Victorlane Palmer and Jesse Maccelus also were honored with “Good Citizenship Awards” because of their positive attitudes toward their classmates, school, and community. The “Elementary Lifetime Awards” were awarded to 18 students who have been enrolled at MHS since pre-K or kindergarten. Several students also were recognized with “Memorial Hall Band Awards,” including 12 students who never missed a music lesson all year.

Congratulations to these fourth-graders and their families as they celebrate their promotion to Middle Division!
